Jason Momoa Reveals the ‘Weird’ Breakfast He Has Every Day (Exclusive)

Jason Momoa isn’t shy about revealing a favorite dish that many might consider unorthodox — even “weird.”

“I have a strange thing for breakfast,” Aquaman star, 44, tells PEOPLE. “I always eat rice with avocado, sunny side up eggs and sardines.”

That element of salted fish, he adds, must be “fresh.” And the pièce de résistance on his sardine dish: “You can grill them.”

When asked if “always” means every morning for breakfast, Momoa says, “If I can, yes. That’s my favorite thing.”

Of course, the menu changes if he finds himself in the place where he grew up. “If I’m in Hawaii,” says the Honolulu-born actor, “it’s Portuguese sausages, eggs, rice, [macaroni] salad, kalua pig, lau lau and a big bowl of fucking poi.”

Then, Momoa jokes, “he sleeps again.”

The Quick X the star is no stranger to the world of cuisine and strong alcoholic beverages, having launched the Meili Vodka brand earlier this year. In keeping with Momo’s ongoing commitment to environmentally conscious practices, the vodka bottles are made from recycled glass, he tells PEOPLE.

He also owns an aluminum brand of Mananalu water – a product he brought to a red carpet appearance on December 9 while promoting his new film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. “I really like the idea of trying to stop single-use plastics and [using] this wonderful film to attack that,” says Momoa, the film’s co-writer.

Last year, the self-proclaimed “environmentalist at heart” was named the UN Environment Program (UNEP) underwater advocate at the UN Ocean Conference in Portugal.

A sardine-packed breakfast, of course, also helps the on-screen superhero stay in shape amid a grueling workout. And it’s not the first time he’s used food as a tool in his acting arsenal; during the filming of the drama See, Momoa learned how to safely interact with a nine-foot-tall Kodiak bear. As seen in a 2019 Instagram video post, he made his furry costar eat an Oreo cookie right out of his mouth.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be in theaters on December 22. Directed by James Wan, it reunites actors Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
