Beverly Hills, 90210 actress Denise Dowse has died at the age of 64 after a battle with viral meningitis. According to several reports, Dowse was in a coma last week due to medical complications. Dowse’s sister Tracey posted on Instagram at the time to reveal the official condition of the Hawaii native in Honolulu. Tracey, the actress’ sister, announced her death on her Instagram profile. In the post she stated:
“It is with great sadness that I inform everyone that my sister, Denise Dowse, has passed away to meet our family in eternal life.”
She went on to say:
“Denise Yvonne Dowse was an amazing sister, successful and distinguished actress, mentor and director. She was my last family member and my best friend. Denise adored each and every one of you. I know that mom is looking at us with all her love. I respectfully request privacy and your continued prayers. I will provide details on her celebration of life later. I will inform you about all the news.”
Denise Dowse’s cause of death
Denise Dowse was hospitalized earlier this month for complications from viral meningitis, which left her in a coma, as her sister noted in an Instagram post. This seems to be the most likely reason for the actress’ death. However, neither her sister nor other family members have publicly confirmed this. The most common type of infection, viral meningitis, can cause inflammation in certain areas of the central nervous system. While the infection is usually resolved by the body’s immune system without the need for medical intervention, the disease can be fatal in certain age groups or immunocompromised individuals.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States:
“People with weakened immune systems as a result of illness, medications (such as chemotherapy), or recent organ or bone marrow transplants” are more susceptible to meningitis infection. They also mention that the disease can fatally affect children under the age of five or newborns under the age of one month with immune systems that are still developing.
They also stated:
“In the United States, non-polio enteroviruses are the most common causes of viral meningitis. Meningitis affects only a small percentage of those infected with enteroviruses.”
The aforementioned evidence suggests that Denise Dowse’s immune system was weakened, which may have contributed to her death at the age of 64. It is not yet known whether the actress had any other problems in the background.

Denise Yvonne Dowse was best known for her appearances on Beverly Hills, 90210 as Mrs. Yvonne Teasley and Professor Harriet Welkman, which she played for over a decade. Meanwhile, the actress is known for her role as Dr. Rhonda Pine in the series Insecure, in which she starred in six episodes over three years, from 2017 to 2020. The 64-year-old actress has worked in the profession for over 34 years and was recognized with more than 122 roles in different films. Denise Dowse’s most recent known role, according to her IMDb bio, was in the 2022 film A Cloud So High.

It is not known how many family members she left behind after her death (apart from her sister Tracey).
