Dermot Mulroney Says He’s Game to Make My Best Friend’s Wedding Sequel with Julia Roberts: ‘I’m In!’

Dermot Mulroney is ready to revisit My best friend’s wedding.

At the premiere of his new film Anyone but you in New York on Monday, Mulroney, 60, said Party tonight is set to film a sequel to the classic 1997 romantic comedy in which he starred with Julia Roberts.

“Yes, no, I’m in!” Mulroney said. “I’m delighted to hear that Julia has finally, you know, come to her senses.”

Mulroney’s response comes after Roberts, 56, got it right My best friend’s wedding as her film, she would gladly shoot a sequel for multiple times in the last few days. My best friend’s wedding follows Roberts’ character Jules, a food journalist who realizes she’s in love with her longtime best friend Michael, played by Mulroney, following his engagement to Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). In an attempt to win Michael over, Jules spends the four days before Michael and Kimmy’s wedding trying to break up the couple. She even faked an engagement to her gay best friend George (Rupert Everett) out of desperation.

Jules’ attempts are unsuccessful: the film ends with Kimmy and Michael happily married, after Jules nearly crashes the wedding when she confesses her love to Michael, leaving her to dance with George at the wedding reception.

“Oh, my God. I don’t know — it’s not my job,” Mulroney said ET, when asked for ideas on where his character Michael might find himself in the sequel. – But if they put that story together, I’m here for sure.

Mulroney has previously said that he is ready to make a sequel to the rom-com.

“I was clear from the beginning, I was clear from 1997 that I was ready to continue. So, I’m on the record,” he said during a guest appearance on Conversation in November 2018

Daily pop. “We were really lucky to be together,” she said at the time. “None of us knew each other before we did the film, and we had really great chemistry. It just worked.
