Detroit Lions Coach Dan Campbell Sold Home After Address Was Posted Online by Daughter’s ‘Distraught’ Classmate

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has moved his family into a new home and is selling their old home after their address was allegedly leaked online by a colleague of his daughter’s who was upset over the team’s loss in last season’s NFC Championship Game.

Campbell, 48, and his wife, Holly, were still in San Francisco after the Lions’ 34-31 loss to the 49ers in the NFC Championship game when their teenage daughter alerted them that more people were suddenly appearing outside the family home and that a barrage of phone calls were coming in. calls, according to News from Detroit, the Detroit Free Press and NBC affiliate WDIV-TV.

The coach’s daughter was inside the house with her boyfriend, who got out in his car and started flashing his lights at anyone who approached the house to scare them, according to police reports obtained by the media.

“The Campbells were nervous for their daughter’s safety and instructed her to leave the home with her boyfriend for the evening,” according to the police report.

The Bloomfield Township Police Department, NFL security and Detroit Lions team security have begun an investigation into the incident, according to media reports.

An NFL security official soon discovered a Snapchat post by one of Campbell’s daughter’s teammates that appeared to reference the coach’s controversial decision in the fourth quarter to go for a first down instead of kicking the game-tying field goal against the 49ers — three points that ended up being the difference in the game.

The Snapchat post included Campbell’s name and home address along with the text, “Stupid dick trying to do it,” according to media outlets.

In police reports obtained by the media, officers said the classmate had been watching the game with a group of friends and that they were “distraught over the loss and needed to clear their heads,” which led to the social media post.

According to News from DetroitHolly Campbell spoke with the mother of a classmate who shared the address. A classmate’s mother, Leslie, told Holly that her son just reposted another post with the family’s address in it and that “the post was only three minutes, he had 30 views on the post, he believed it was a fake address, and he quickly removed it after thinking about it,” the police report said.

However, the investigation also found that the classmate drove to Campbell’s home with a group of friends the night the Lions lost, parked outside and yelled profanities inside the home, according to The News from Detroit and Detroit Free Press.

Police told the Campbells that the information they had gathered about the incident was not enough to press charges, according to media reports.
