Dick Van Dyke Sweetly Praises Wife Arlene Silver Ahead of His 98th Birthday: ‘You Look Like a Movie Star’

Dick Van Dyke can’t take his eyes off his love!

The acting legend sweetly praised wife Arlene Silver in a video he shared Friday that was filmed backstage on the set of his upcoming CBS special celebrating his 98th birthday.

In an Instagram Story clip shared by photographer Laura Johansen, Van Dyke – who turns 98 on December 13 – smiled as he gazed at his glamorously dressed wife as he sat on a dressing room chair.

“You look like a movie star,” he told Silver, 52, as another voice asked, “Don’t you?”

“He really wants to, doesn’t he?” Van Dyke replied, as Silver, standing across the room in a dark blue dress and cape, smiled back.

“I saw her first!” the actor then jokingly added.

Van Dyke and Silver married on Leap Day in February 2012. The couple met at the 2006 SAG Awards, where Silver was working as a makeup artist.

She fell in love with Mary Poppins star after supporting him following the death of his longtime love, Michelle Triola, who died of lung cancer in 2009.

In another video released Friday, Van Dyke performed a quick dance number backstage while using his cane as a prop.

The star was seen taking a short detour as he flashed his signature movie star smile, while the opening track The Dick Van Dyke Show played.

“Just move,” read the headline. “Dick’s secrets to living well: Positivity, don’t go down the stairs sideways and just keep moving! #dickvandyke #dvdturns98 #justkeepmoving @cbstv.”

Van Dyke will be honored on CBS’s birthday special, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic, which will be broadcast on December 21.

The two-hour special will celebrate the star’s legendary career and feature musical and dance performances, including songs from Van Dyke’s classic films Bye Bye Birdie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bangwith special guests and a magical holiday number, the network said in a statement.

“I started with CBS under contract in 1955 with the CBS morning show, then The Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder,” Van Dyke said of the upcoming special in a statement. “I’ve been in the CBS family for nearly 70 years and I couldn’t be prouder.”

“I am incredibly honored that CBS will be doing a special 98th birthday show for me,” he added. “I can’t wait to be part of the show!”
