He has been coaching and training under coach Ranveer Jakhar at Saint Sophia Sports Academy in Haryana since 2012. Dinesh excelled in academics, so his father wanted him to become an engineer. However, Dinesh had a keen interest in cricket and wanted to pursue it in a more serious way. His father, who was also keen on sports, decided to support his son’s ambitions. Dinesh joined Saint Sophia Sports Academy, Haryana in 2012 and started practicing under coach Ranveer Jakhar. They practiced for 8-9 hours with the sole purpose of improving his goalkeeping ability.

He played in the Under-16 Vjiay Merchant Trophy. He was selected for the 2021 Venu Mankad Trophy. He represented Haryana and averaged 90. He played 5 innings and scored 3 fifties to his name, setting a record of more than fifty runs. He was also selected in the Haryana team. India’s squad for the 2021 Under-19 Asia Cup.

He caught the attention of the selectors during the Challenger Trophy. He played in a total of 4 games and scored 255 points. His best score was 170 runs off 98 deliveries, including 14 sixes and 10 fours. When his friend and colleague Nishant Sindhu told him about the selectors before the match, Nishant replied:

Tu bas six count karna aaj mere”

However, it turned out that Dinesh was never the first choice of the selectors as the team already had Aaradhya Yadav to keep the wicket.

In the semi-final against Australia, Dinesh played a short but brilliant performance, hitting the ball ferociously, scoring 20 points off 4 balls, including 2 sixes and 2 fours. Set the record for being the world’s first cricketer to score runs from just boundaries by bowling 4 or more balls in any category of men’s, women’s or under-19 cricket.

In the Under-19 World Cup final against England, India had a target of 190 runs and needed 12 runs in 3 overs with 4 wickets remaining. Nishant Sindhu hit four and then ran and passed the ball to Dinesh Bana. Bana hit a six off the ball of fast bowler James Sales. He added six more runs off the long delivery to lead India to win the 2022 Under-19 World Cup. He remained unbeaten on 13 runs off 5 balls and took 4 catches.

Dinesh’s father installed a big screen in front of his house in Hisar Sector 14 for his family and neighbors to watch him play. His family celebrated with firecrackers and distributed sweets after the historic victory. The next day, Dinesh’s family, neighbors and his college friends played Holi with Gulal and danced to the beats of Dhol.

His father said he was very happy and proud of his son and believed he would continue to bring honor to the family. His sister Nitika said,
