A Florida dog found his furry home with an all-too-familiar face.
Last month, the Alachua County Animal Resources and Care Shelter shared a Facebook post revealing that a dog found tied up at a local dog park had been adopted by a “dear friend” of its original owner, after the dog’s second keeper died.
According to the organization, the person – identified only as Tierney – saw a photo of a dog named Ares and was “shocked” to recognize him.
The original owner of Tierney and Ares, the animal shelter said, “never knew what happened” to the pet, so they moved on without him.
“They had been looking for him for so long, so when his picture popped up, Tierney came running,” the Alachua County Animal Resources & Care shelter wrote.

When Tierney visited the location in Gainesville, Florida, he showed the staff working there photos of the dog from several years ago.
“Tierney showed us the pictures and we brought in Ares to confirm it was THAT Ares,” the shelter said.
In photos of the reunion shared online by the Alachua County Animal Resources & Care shelter, Tierney can be seen holding a delighted Ares.
The organization noted that Tierney later “decided to finalize his adoption and make this reunion permanent,” adding, “Ares has known so much love before and we are so happy that he will never be without her again.”
It was not immediately clear how or why Ares remained tied up after his owner’s death, or how that owner came to own the dog after Tierney’s friend.
