Dolly Parton opens up about her “host” husband, Carl Thomas Dean.
On the Monday, December 9th episode of Bunnie Xo’s Stupid blonde podcast, the country music icon, 78, revealed that her notoriously private husband, 82, refuses to go with her to awards shows.
“He loves music, but he’s not the least bit interested in it. And he told me that right up front,” the “9 to 5” singer told wife Jelly Roll.

“I begged him to come with me in ’67. We got married in ’66. And that’s when I won my first BMI song of the year,” she said, referring to her 1966 hit “Put it Free Until Tomorrow.”
“I rented him a tuxedo and, you know, begged him to leave, and he did,” Parton added. “And, oh, he was so uncomfortable all night.”
The The “Jolene” singer continued, adding that as soon as they got home from the event, he “started pulling things off.”
“He said, ‘Listen, now I want you to do whatever you want and I wish you the best, but don’t ask me to go to another one of these damn things because I’m not going.’ And it never did,” she recalled.

“So we just have that respect, and I respected that because I didn’t know he was going to be so uncomfortable, but he doesn’t even like going out to, you know, big dinners or anything like that,” Parton told Bunnie, 44.
The couple, who renewed their vows in 2016 at their home in Nashville, have been married for 58 years.
“He was a housewife and it worked out well for us… I don’t know if there’s anyone out there who follows astrology or pays attention to it. But he’s a Cancer and I’m a Capricorn, and they’re compatible signs,” the country icon said. “He liked to go places if we wanted to drive across the country or if we had something planned. But boy, he could never wait to come home.”

“He wanted to be home, and I’m a gypsy by nature. I like to go and see what else is out there. But, I think…it worked out well for us,” Parton said.
