Career
Sporting Kansas City selected Dwyer 16th overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. On March 25, he made his debut as an unused substitute against FC Dallas. He made his debut on May 29 in a 3–2 victory against Orlando City in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, which his team won.
Dwyer made his MLS debut on 2 September, replacing Sapong in the final four minutes of a 2–1 win. On 4 November, he replaced him in the 2012 MLS Cup playoffs against the Houston Dynamo, a 2–0 loss.
Dwyer tried out for Scottish Premier League side St Mirren after the 2012 MLS season. On 3 January 2013, Sporting canceled Dwyer’s loan.
Dwyer and three other teammates were loaned to USL Pro club Orlando City for the 2013 season. He scored twice in the Lions’ first three matches and assisted once. Dwyer scored his first hat-trick on 4 May 2013 against Antigua Barracuda.
Three weeks later, he tied the all-time USL Pro season scoring record with 13 goals against Wilmington.
Dwyer scored 14 goals in 2011 for FC New York, surpassing Jhonny Arteaga’s 13. Dwyer scored the first in a 3–4 loss to Fluminense in the Brazilian Série A on 22 June 2013.
Sporting KC recalled Dwyer on June 27 after Orlando City SC lost the US Open Cup to Chicago Fire SC. On August 3, he scored his first MLS goal in stoppage time in a 2–3 loss against the New York Red Bulls. Dwyer made his CONCACAF Champions League debut five days later.
In the 75th minute, he led Sporting to 2:0 in front of Nicaraguan Real Esteli. On September 7, Dwyer set a club record with four goals against the Charlotte Eagles in the 2013 USL Pro Championship. The Lions won 7-4.
