For her 75th birthday, Deon took to Instagram on Tuesday, August 27 to celebrate his mother Marian “GG” Derrico with a sweet post. After stopping chemotherapy when her cancerous tumor shrunk, Deon pays tribute to how far GG has come.

“#TheDERRICOs Happy 75th Birthday to the matriarch of my family Mrs. Marian J. DERRICO!” the fast began. “I love you mom, from the moon and back because of you…. I am ME and I am blessed with everything I have because of your endless love, guidance, strength and your ability to connect with me on an intellectual level since I was a child!”

GG was first diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and later learned that a tumor on her lung had grown to the size of a baseball in 2022. However, a year later, viewers watched her receive the news that the tumor had shrunk.

“It’s not just a physical confrontation,” she said while undergoing treatment at the time. “It’s a mental fight, it’s an emotional fight. I can only fight so much.”

After stopping chemotherapy, fans of the famous family wondered how GG was holding up. In June, Deon said Parade that the recovery process was “challenging”.

“GG, right now she’s still just dealing with the after effects of chemo. So she still has good days and bad days. You know, there are days when I ask God like, ‘God, what now?’ And then she has days, I’m like, ‘Oh, God, you know you look pretty good today.'”

The family recently went through some other changes with Deon and Karen separating after nearly 20 years together and 13 children. The two appear to have remained on friendly terms, with Karen posting a touching post for Father’s Day just days after their divorce was finalized.

“Happy Father’s Day to the best dad 14 kids could ask for! @deonderrico,” Karen captioned the video, which featured a photo of the couple with one of their daughters. “Also, to all the great fathers out there! Happy Father’s Day and may your day be filled with love, joy and rest! 😊”

In the comments, Deon thanked his ex-wife for the tribute, writing: “Awwww thank you @karenederrico for this ❤️❤️❤️.”
