Wiki/Biography
Brij Mohan Bhardwaj was born in Sahroi village in Khel, Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. While at school, he often thought about situations such as poverty, suffering, or death caused by lack of food and shelter. After graduating from Aligarh, he went on to pursue BAMS. Dr. Brij Mohan has been an ardent follower of Lord Krishna since his childhood.
Wife: a partner who shares his dreams
While in college, he met his future wife Madhuri Bharadwaj, who was studying in ninth grade at a school in Aligarh. Both Madhuri and Mohan used to take buses to school and college respectively. On the bus, they discuss an unusual topic for two teenagers. They would talk about their shared dream; a meaningful life dedicated to helping those in need. In Madhuri he found echoes of his mission. Mohan and Madhuri plan to become partners in the venture. Eight years after meeting, they decided to become life partners and got married on December 8, 1993. However, they decided not to have children of their own; because they wanted to devote all their energy to the sick and homeless. They both became doctors and began taking abandoned patients from the streets into their homes.
inspired by baba
When he was five years old, a Baba named “Chiranjee Baba” passed away in his village Saroj. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj is devastated by his death. Chiranjee Baba is a poor 85-year-old man who herds cattle for the villagers every day. Chiranji Baba never married and lived alone in the village. However, when Chiranji Baba fell ill, no one came to help him and eventually he died. Recalling the incident, he said:
It’s not that no one wants to help him. Everyone did it. But they dare not take responsibility for fear that it will fall on them. People will help if someone takes responsibility and shows others how they can help. “
Although Brij Mohan Bhardwaj was too young to help Chiranjee Baba, the incident stayed in Bhardwaj’s mind Deeply impressed, this motivated him to help patients and was able to take action to save lives.
Apna Ghar: Place where humans live
After seven years of marriage, Dr. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj and Dr. Madhuri Bharadwaj established “Maa Madhuri Brij Varis Sewa Sadan, Apna Ghar” on June 29, 2000, Madhuri’s 27th birthday, in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Upnagar later became home to the homeless, the poor, the sick and the lost who wandered the public spaces. Today, there are 21 ashrams across India (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi) providing shelter to the sick and homeless. Volunteers of the Apna Ghar Sewa Samitis have set up the Apna Ghar helpline to provide immediate services to the homeless and poor. More than 30 ambulances transported them to the ashram for rescue around the clock.
Funds and expenses
While most ashrams run on public support, the ones in Kota and Ajmer are partially supported by the Rajasthan government. There is a signboard outside each ashram; it mentions the daily needs of the ashram, which are usually met through donations from visitors. The organization often runs crowdfunding campaigns to boost costs.
