Dr. Charles Stanley, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta and founder of In Touch Ministries, died at home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. He celebrated his 90th birthday. at the beginning of this year. Atlanta’s First Baptist Church released a statement confirming his death, saying:
“Dr. Charles F. Stanley, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Atlanta, passed away peacefully at home this morning.” We are grateful to him for over 50 years of dedicated leadership and spiritual mentoring as FBA Senior Pastor.”
First Baptist Atlanta also issued an obituary, noting that Charles Stanley had led the church for 50 years. The famous preacher was born on September 25, 1932 and graduated as an artist. He became a member of First Baptist Church in 1969. He previously served as pastor of Fruitland Baptist Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina, as well as First Fairborn Baptist Church in Ohio, Miami and Bartow, Florida.

Everything you need to know about Pastor Dr. Charles Stanley
Charles Stanley was born in Virginia in 1932 and grew up there. His mother raised him when his father died when he was only 29 years old. He was called to ministry at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in Danville, Virginia, after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond. Stanley later attended Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary for a degree in theology and then Luther Rice Seminary for a master’s and doctorate in theology.
He began his pastoral career in 1957 at Fruitland Baptist Church in North Carolina, where he also lectured, preached, and evangelized students at Fruitland Bible Institute. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio, in 1959, First Baptist Church in Miami, Florida, in 1962, where he founded George Mueller Christian School in 1966, and First Church Baptist in Bartow, Florida, 1968. 1955. He married Anna Margaret Johnson and had two children, Andy and Becky. However, their marriage fell apart in 2000. Anna passed away in 2014. The family has yet to discuss the pastor’s funeral or memorial service.
