He was born into a Hindu family in Rajasthan. His father, Sohanraj Bhansali, was a grain merchant and commission agent. His mother’s name was Pushpa Bhansali. He has four brothers, Suresh Bhansali, Jitendra Bhansali, late Mahendra Bhansali and Vinesh Bhansali. Dr. Gautam’s wife, Meghana Gemawat, is a social worker and co-founder of the Golden Hour Foundation, and they have two sons.
Profession
He is an experienced consultant physician with extensive clinical research experience in infectious and tropical diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya and tuberculosis. He has conducted various charity medical camps in rural areas of Nagpur, Jalgaon and Wadala. He has organized various medical camps for Maheshwari Samaj in Mumbai (2007), polio and rehabilitation camps for Giants Group in Bhiwandi Metro (2004 and 2005), Ralegan Siddhi with social activist Anna Hazare, Lasoor, Aurangabad and tribal areas of Palghar and Kelwan with Chief Minister and Minister of Medical Education.
In 2018, he founded the Golden Hour Foundation, whose motto is “Save the Golden Hour, Save Lives.”
During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, he was appointed as the chief coordinator of a committee organised by the General Medicine and Infectious Diseases Board of the Maharashtra BMC.

- Speaking about the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, he said,
People with weakened immune systems and a history of overseas travel are more likely to panic. If we find patients with a history of travel to affected areas such as China, Japan, South Korea, Iran and Italy, we will refer them to government hospitals.”
- He organized various free medical camps for diabetic patients.
- In 2016, his name was entered into the Guinness World Records for the most diabetic eye screenings performed collectively in eight hours.
- In 2020, he was honoured for his contribution to society during the COVID pandemic on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ along with Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala. In the show, he shared his experience of treating COVID-positive patients for free.
