During college, he met his junior, Bollywood actress Aditi Gowitrikar. Soon, they became friends and fell in love. Dr. Mufazal and Aditi’s parents were against their marriage due to their different religious beliefs. Despite all the opposition, the two held a Hindu and Muslim wedding. Aditi converted to religion and married her long-time boyfriend Dr. Mufazal and changed her name to Sarah Lakdawala. They dated for nearly seven years and got married in 1998. In 1999, the couple was blessed with a daughter, Kiara, and in 2007, Aditi gave birth to their second child, Zhiaan. Soon, their happy married life began to have problems and they decided to divorce in 2008. Their different lifestyles were reportedly the reason for their discord; as Aditi began her career in modeling and acting, while Mufazal continued to practice as a doctor.

Emam has not recovered at all. She has been in a critical condition for the past month and a half and is taking a lot of medication to suppress brain activity.”

Dr. Muffazal said in his defence,

Eman is fine and doing well. She is recovering well and only needs a CT scan to determine her neurological status. In fact, for the first 15 days after Eman started treatment, everything was normal for Saimma, but when she recovered, we suggested taking her back to Egypt and Saimma started making all this trouble because she didn’t want to take her sister back to Egypt for financial reasons. It was not only a challenge, but also a humanitarian cause. We couldn’t see her lying like that, so helpless, waiting to die. The risk in this case was 99%. I think now, we gave her a chance to live. If she can get the right physical therapy and wants to walk, Eman will have to make an effort. ”

Facts/Trivia

  • In an interview, when asked about his experience as a successful surgeon, he said,

The journey of a middle-class Muslim boy from Bhendi Bazaar to become the surgeon to the Vice President of India was exciting to say the least. No one in my family was a doctor to guide me in this journey. It was a personal journey with ups and downs but that did not stop me from my goal of achieving greatness in the field of surgery. I put in a lot of hard work and spent countless sleepless nights but with one goal in mind: to save another life in some way. I learnt that the greatest satisfaction a person gets is not from making a ton of money but from giving back to the less privileged.”
