On January 28, 2022, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her apartment. She lives with her husband Neeraj and children in the Legacy Caldera apartment complex in Bangalore, Karnataka. She reportedly suffered from postpartum depression. According to local police,
The incident came to light around 10:30 a.m. when the maid and nanny knocked on the bedroom door multiple times and alerted the apartment’s security staff when there was no response. The security guard tried unsuccessfully to break in, so he walked to the balcony of an adjacent bedroom and looked in through the window. The nanny immediately called Dr. Neeraj, who left home for the hospital around 8.30 am. Before Neeraj could reach the apartment, security guards and others had broken in and prepared to shift Sandriya to a nearby private hospital. Doctors at the private hospital declared Sandria dead after several attempts to restore her breathing and the body was transferred to Bowling Hospital for an autopsy. “
Her last rites were performed at her husband’s farmhouse in Abhijal, Bengaluru. The then Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed condolences on her death. The then Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai also expressed grief over her death. He said,
She is a smart student and a very polite person. She is warm and humble towards her colleagues. Dr. Neeraj is also known for his humility. “
