Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero secretly created two new rivals for Vegeta to watch out for in Dragon Ball’s future. Throughout Vegeta’s history in the franchise, Goku has always been regarded as his one and only rival. However, certain events that transpired in the second Dragon Ball Super movie may force that to change.
For the most part, the great divide between the two Saiyans and the rest of the Z-Warriors has allowed Vegeta to be single-minded in his efforts to grow stronger. To him, Goku is the only person on Earth needs to be competitive with. Since Piccolo, Gohan, the androids, and the human Z-Warriors seemingly had no chance to overtake him, Vegeta has kept his focus on outdoing Goku and becoming the strongest person in the universe. Much of his training in both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super has been motivated by that singular goal.
Vegeta Should Have 3 Rivals Now
After Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta should have a total of three rivals going forward. In addition to their personal history, Vegeta’s need to be stronger than Goku is fueled by his ambitions to become stronger than anyone. Since that’s so important to him, it makes sense that he would be alarmed by what happened during the fight with Cell Max in Super Hero. Both Gohan and Piccolo accessed new transformations and became more powerful than ever. According to Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama himself, both characters are now on the level of Goku and Vegeta now.
Because of Vegeta’s pride, the changes to their power levels should be of great concern to him. If they’re that strong, there’s definitely a risk of one or both of them surpassing him. For Vegeta, this should make it all the more important that he doesn’t become complacent in his training in the months to come. After all, it’s not just Goku he has to be worried about anymore. Goku’s son and a Namekian getting ahead of him would be huge blows to his ego if he doesn’t prevent this scenario from coming to pass.
Vegeta May Challenge Gohan & Piccolo In Dragon Ball’s Future
Vegeta has been consistently dismissive of Gohan and Piccolo in the Dragon Ball franchise, but his dynamics with both characters should be different when the anime returns. Vegeta has made it abundantly clear that he believes Gohan has squandered his potential and hasn’t viewed him as a warrior of the same caliber as Goku since the Cell Games. As for Piccolo, Vegeta was pessimistic when judging the Namekian’s chances at beating Frost. How Piccolo handled the fight proved that Vegeta had underestimated the character. Now that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has drastically increased Gohan and Piccolo’s power levels, his respect for them should grow as well. If that happens, Vegeta may be inclined to challenge one of them to a fight in Dragon Ball’s future.
