“In light of the announcement that The Drew Barrymore Show will continue production, the National Book Foundation has rescinded its invitation to Ms. Barrymore to host the 74th National Book Awards,” the group confirmed Tuesday.
“It is our commitment to ensure that the focus of the awards remains on celebrating writers and books and we are grateful to Ms Barrymore and her team for their understanding in this situation.”

The decision comes just a day after Drew revealed that her talk show will continue to be filmed.
Sharing the news on Instagram, she began: “I decided to walk away from the MTV Movie & TV Awards because I was a host and it was in direct conflict with what the strike was about, which is the studios, streamers, film, and television. It was also in the first week of the strike, so I did what I thought was appropriate at the time to stand in solidarity with the writers. And to be clear, our talk show actually ended on April 20th, so we never had to close the show.

“However, I am also making the decision to return for the first time to this strike for our show, which may have my name on it, but this is bigger than me. I own this choice. We are in agreement not to discuss or promote film and television that are affected by any kind. We launched live in a global pandemic.”
Fans begged Drew to reverse his decision
Drew continued, “Our show was made for sensitive times and it only worked through what the real world was going through in real time. I want to be there to provide what the writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense for the human experience. I’m hoping for a resolution to everything as soon as possible. We’ve weathered some tough times since we first hit the airwaves. And so I’m stepping forward to restart Season 4 with astute humility.”
Following the announcement, which was released on Monday, fans and fellow actors began commenting, with many pleading with Drew to reverse his decision. “Don’t do it Drew. Please. You’re hurting so many other people,” one replied.

“Please listen to the feedback and make a better and correct decision to stand with those fighting for pay @drewbarrymore,” another added.
Meanwhile, a third wrote: “Drew I love you but please think again. This is not the right thing to do no matter how you try to justify it. You are a powerful voice and the writers and actors on strike need your support.”
