Drew Brees' 4 Kids: All About Baylen, Bowen, Callen and Rylen

Drew Brees is a father of four children.

The retired NFL player and his wife Brittany Brees met in the late 90s while they were both students at Purdue University. After marrying in 2003, the couple welcomed their first child, son Baylen, in 2009. They would later have sons Bowen and Callen and daughter Rylen, rounding out their family of six.

After 20 seasons in the NFL, Drew retired in 2021 and enlisted his children to make the announcement. In a video posted to Instagram, all four Brees children sat on the couch and took turns saying, “After years with the Saints and 20 years in the NFL, our dad is finally going to retire,” before adding, “so he can spend more time with us!”

After his retirement, Drew worked for one season as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports. He later explained that his children were the main reason why he decided not to return for the 2022-2023 season. “The reason I didn’t do it this year, from a broadcasting perspective, is my family,” Brees told The Spun. “You have to be away on the weekends, which is basically what I did as a player. Those are such precious moments for my kids. I want to be active and involved in their weekend activities. That doesn’t really sit well with a broadcasting career right now.”

In 2022, Drew told fitness coach Todd Durkin that he “loves watching his kids play ball.” But the former NFL player added that the most important thing is that his children tried hard and had fun.

“Sometimes I have to over-control my overzealousness during the game,” Drew said on The Todd Durkin Impact Show. “Basically what I tell them is, ‘I don’t care about today’s score. All I want to see is effort. I want to see great effort. And it’s just such a blessing to be able to play, to be able to be with my friends, to be able to play this sports. And I just want to see you have fun.’ ”

Baylen Robert Brees, 15

Baylen Robert Brees, Drew and Brittany’s first child together, was born on January 15, 2009.

Baylen grew up with his father playing for the New Orleans Saints. In 2019, he participated in a video for Saints which featured the players’ children repeating the pregame speeches usually given by Drew and Demario Davis. Drew said his son was nervous the night before the video was shot. “He got all pumped up and said, ‘Dad, can I wear your Super Bowl ring?’ ” he said. “I thought, ‘It’s a big responsibility, but absolutely. Do you want to take on that responsibility?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I got it dad, don’t worry.’ ”

In a postgame interview in 2020, Drew talked about his oldest son’s artistic nature. “[Baylen has] becoming friends with the guy who designs all my shoes for My Cause, My Cleats — Marcus Rivera,” he explained. “They actually FaceTimed together, and he gave him some advice. We have the entire set of airbrushes at home. He got that for Christmas, so now he’s making cleats for the guys on the team.” (My Cause, My Cleats is an NFL program for players to promote charity with custom cleat designs.)

Drew then revealed that Saints players Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, Marshon Lattimore, Deonte Harris and Michael Thomas had received custom cleats from Baylen, whose artwork was in high demand. “So a bunch of guys came up to him … and said, ‘Hey, do you want to make me a pair?’ ” Drew said. “We went home with about six boxes of cleats on Monday, so that’s probably what he’s doing in the garage as we speak.”

As for his dance moves? Baylen was seen dancing during a Saints game in 2021. When Drew was asked about it after the game, he hadn’t seen the video yet — but he knew right away which kid it was. “That’s probably my oldest son, Baylen,” he said New Orleans advocate. “He’s the one who has the rhythm, out of all the kids. So he’ll start dancing and celebrating. He’s kind of the king of the goods in the family.”

Bowen Christopher Brees, 13

Drew and Brittany welcomed their second son, Bowen Christopher Brees, on October 19, 2010.

Bowen made headlines even before he was born: In early October, Drew asked his Twitter followers to come up with unusual “B” names and received more than 6,000 responses. He later announced the birth of his son on Twitter, writing: “Healthy, happy baby. Big hands, big feet. Brit is great. So proud!”

The 13-year-old also followed in his father’s footsteps and plays football. In 2021, Drew shared an Instagram post of Bowen and Baylen after their games. The former full back wrote: “Loved watching the boys play soccer last night @sfcseagles and @playfna. Great atmosphere and fast track. No-huddle offense was on point!”

Drew predicted Bowen could one day be a football player in an interview with CBS News when he was just 2 years old. “He could be our little football player,” Drew said of his son in 2012.

However, Bowen also showed promise as a baseball player. In May 2023, Drew posted a video on Instagram of his son hitting a home run while playing for the minor league team. “Proud dad moment…Bowen put in the time and reps…hit his first home run over the fence today,” he wrote in the caption. “GRAND SLAM actually…and the best part was seeing little brother be the first to hit it on home plate!”

Callen Christian Brees, 12

Drew and Brittany’s third child, Callen Christian Brees, was born on August 15, 2012. Drew announced the news on Twitter, tweeting, “Brittany and I are proud to say that Callen Christian Brees was born last night in New Orleans. Mom and Boy is happy and healthy.”

Callen had clearly taken after his father. In 2018, Drew pulled off a now-famous spin move and scored a 7-yard touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Saints later divided and video on Twitter Drew’s touchdown in 2018 and his son Callen making the exact same move in a football game in May 2021. “Like father, like son,” the Saints tweeted. “Callen Brees with a spin move.”

Besides football, Callen was interested in all kinds of sports activities. In October 2022, Drew posted a video of Callen throwing an axe, writing, “Callen throwing an axe…not bad! Good skill to have…you never know when you might need it🤷😂.”

In June 2022, Drew took Callen on a father-son fishing trip. “Yesterday I was one on one with Callen fishing Greenjack and Skipjack,” he wrote on Instagram. “I caught a rare trifecta!”

Rylen Judith Brees, 10

Drew and Brittany welcomed their first daughter and fourth child, Rylen Judith Brees, on August 25, 2014.

Drew announced the birth on Twitter with a photo of himself holding the newborn. “We spent an early morning with our new baby girl!” he wrote. “Brit and her are happy, healthy and doing well! God’s greatest gift!” Drew was also excited to be the first to greet his daughter. “It just melted my heart watching her being born,” he said. “I actually had to catch her, so to speak, catch her on her way out.”

The former Saints player made sure to spend a lot of quality time with his little girl. “Such a great afternoon with Rylen on a daddy/daughter scavenger hunt around town,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a selfie with his daughter in 2021. He also shared another photo of her enjoying pizza, with the caption: “Last date night with to my daughter Rylen. Lots of pizza, laughs and smiles. I’ll never forget these moments.”

And just like her brothers, Rylen also inherited some of her father’s soccer skills. In November 2022, Drew shared a video of his four children playing inside the Saints’ indoor practice facility. “Rylen played this like a true NFL DB…sticking all the way down the field through the catch,” the post captioned.

In May 2023, Drew revealed that his daughter was also a talented gymnast. He posted a photo of his youngest posing on a multi-level podium with other young gymnasts. “Rylen was great at her gymnastics meet today! So proud of her and her team!” the proud dad wrote in the description.
