Drew and Jonathan Scott set the record straight when it’s the holiday season really begins — and when it’s acceptable to decorate for Christmas.
The Property Brothers stars, both 46, agreed that earlier is always better when it comes to spreading a little holiday cheer inside and outside the home — despite what their haters might say. The twins weighed in on the age-old pre-Thanksgiving Christmas decorating debate during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
“I mean, the first day of Christmas is November 1,” says father-of-two Drew. “The minute Halloween is over, I flip the switch and all my lights go on Christmas.”

Speaking to PEOPLE on Nov. 12, Jonathan adds that he’s already put up his Christmas tree and festive lights in the home he shares with fiancée Zooey Deschanel, and notes that he “doesn’t care” about critics who might look down on the pusher season.
“I think these people just worry too much,” he says. “I think people can express themselves however they want.”
Jonathan, who is stepfather to Deschanel’s children – Elsie, 9, and Charlie, 7 – added that nothing beats seeing the children’s faces light up when they break out the decorations each year.

“I love seeing kids get excited about the decorations they grow – anything that makes kids smile and laugh and brings them joy. I don’t care what others do. I’ll make sure to encourage that.”
He clarifies that they make wait until Turkey Day to put the lights up outside because they’re also going all out with Thanksgiving decorating.
“I’ll wait outside until Thanksgiving and we’ll take down our harvest display and move everything outside to Christmas,” he says.

Drew, on the other hand, has already put his all into preparations for the most wonderful time of the year.
“I have a projector system that I have up on the side of the house that I made for Halloween. I just finished the design for the Christmas holidays,” he says, noting that the animation was inspired by clay. Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. “That’s the theme I have for our house. So we’ll have Christmas music and that kind of look.”
Drew shares son Parker, 2, and daughter Piper, 5 months, with wife Linda Phan.
As promised, Property Brothers star showed off some of the intricate lighting he’s set up for the holidays in an Instagram Reel on Friday, Nov. 1, to Mariah Carey’s iconic song “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

The proud grandparents gave up their “dream home” in the Canadian Rockies for their LA abode, so Drew and Jonathan had to make sure the makeover was absolutely perfect, they shared.
