Dua Lipa replaces the stage with the screen for her latest project.
In the trailer for the Apple Original spy thriller Argyll released on Thursday, the singer can be seen in the lead role Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill.
Dressed in a shimmering gold dress and blonde wig, Lipa approaches Cavill, who plays the titular “world’s greatest spy,” and seductively tells him, “I hope you can dance as well as you dress.”
“There’s only one way to find out,” Cavill teases, before taking Lipa’s hand and leading her to the middle of the dance floor.
The action flick, which also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, marks the pop star’s first major acting role since her screen debut as mermaid Barbie in the hit film, Barbie.

While the character of the “New Rules” singer in the film has yet to be confirmed, The Hollywood Reporter she revealed that she will also provide original music for the title track and score.
Additionally, it looks like Lipa will be sharing the screen with Cavilla in fantasy sequences based on the best-selling series of spy novels written by Howard’s character, cat-loving author Elly Conway.
According to Universal Pictures, which is co-distributing the thriller with Apple Original Films, things in the author’s world are turned upside down “when the plots of Elly’s fictional books — centered on secret agent Argylle and his mission to expose a global spy syndicate — begin to reflect the secrets actions of a real spy organization.”
She soon finds herself in the company of a real-life spy played by Sam Rockwell as the two race “around the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the lines between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begin to blur,” the synopsis continues.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, Argyll also stars Ariana DeBose, Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine O’Hara and John Cena.

When the project was first announced, Vaughn compared it to James Bond franchise. “When I read this early draft of the manuscript, I felt it was the most amazing and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the 50s. This will reinvent the spy genre,” he said in a statement via Deadline.
According to the output, Argyll will be the first in at least three installments of a worldwide film franchise.
Still, the first part of the trilogy is a fitting project for the director, whose resume includes cult action films, Kingsman franchise, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. The film also fits nicely into Cavill’s wheelhouse, given the British actor’s extensive experience in the spy genre with The man from STRICA and Mission Impossible franchise.
