A now-convicted murderer who admitted to being on the prowl and has been described by police as a possible serial killer will die on Thursday.

Owen confessed to the murders of Georgianna Worden and Karen Slattery. He was on Florida’s death row for one of the longest terms.
Carey Haughwout, Palm Beach County’s elected public defender, said that when we flag children, we need to anticipate that there could be consequences that could lead to tragedies.
Haughwout portrays the killer in a completely different light than those who called him a monster. She kept in touch with him by mail, calls and visits while he was on a retrial for Slattery’s murder in 1999.
When asked if Owen was aware of his actions, Haughwout said that he was. She stated: “I would say there is a conscience, a different conscience than the one we have.
As Haughwout began to study his troubled childhood, he discovered brutality from the moment he was born, from his abusive father to his heavily drinking parents.
He said physical and sexual assaults took place regularly there. He often saw her mother being sexually abused. His father kept his half-brother chained up in the basement.
She claimed that when Owen was nine years old, she witnessed her mother’s long and agonizing death from cancer. This made his father’s hopeless alcoholism worse, and when Owen was thirteen, he committed suicide in his garage. Owen was abandoned along with his brother and sister.
He was discovered in the car he used to commit suicide in the garage, but was kept there for several days out of fear that he would be caught and separated, according to Haughwout.
Owen later moved to an orphanage in Michigan where he would spend his teenage years. According to Haughwout, the place looked heavenly from the outside. However, conditions inside were dire.
“We found out that it was closed due to the widespread physical and sexual abuse suffered by children growing up there,” Haughwout added. “We found several children who told what happened in the orphanage.”
After a few years, Owen will leave the orphanage to join his brother who ran away to Palm Beach County. Soon cruelty will take over Owen’s life.
