Dwaraga Prabhakaran was born in Sri Lanka to a Tamil Hindu family. Her ancestors belonged to the Thirumeni Kudumbam (also known as the Thirumeni family) who built the Sivan temple at Valvettithurai.

Parents and siblings

Dwaraga’s father, Velupillai Prabhakaran, was a militant leader and founder of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He was killed in a firefight with Sri Lankan troops in May 2009. Dwaraga’s mother, Mathivathani Erambu, was reportedly killed by the Sri Lankan army; however, the army later denied killing her and said they did not know her whereabouts. She has two brothers. The elder brother, Charles Anthony Prabhakaran, was the head of the information and technology department of the LTTE. He was killed in a clash with the Sri Lankan army on May 18, 2009. The younger brother, Balachandran Prabhakaran Balachandran Prabhakaran was shot dead by the Sri Lankan army in May 2009.

Dwaraga Prabhakaran was reportedly killed by the Sri Lankan army; however, the army later denied killing her and said they were unaware of her whereabouts. On May 20, 2009, the Sri Lankan army discovered the bodies of Dwaraga and that of her mother, Madiwatani.
