Ed Sheeran is back on the road and playing cool.
The singer, 32, performed his first show on the +–=÷× (pronounced “math”) tour in Japan on Saturday, and while everything went smoothly for the crowd, Sheeran almost suffered a major meltdown.
In a video posted to Instagram, Sheeran was about to take the stage at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan, and while rushing up the stairs, he tripped and fell to his knees – guitar in hand. But he quickly recovered and began strumming his guitar to the excited crowd before flashing a cheeky smile to the cameraman below the stage who recorded the fall.
“Stylized,” he captioned the video.
Calum Scott, who opened the show, revealed he was unaware of the fall from where he was sitting in the stadium. “I was at the back of the stadium with the highest view and I didn’t see him like that, well styled my friend 😂👏🏻”, wrote the “Dancing on My Own” singer.
Although Saturday’s performance marked Sheeran’s first appearance in Japan in 2024, he has already performed three times since the start of the year. He kicked off the tour in Bahrain on January 15th, followed by two shows in Dubai on January 19th and 20th, and after two nights in Osaka, he will conclude his show in Japan in Tokyo at the Tokyo Dome on January 31st.
The Grammy winner will continue his run of shows in Asia through March, visiting Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines before wrapping up the Mumbai leg of the tour on March 16.
During the summer, he will bring a record-breaking show across Europe, with stops in Italy, Germany, Spain and throughout Eastern Europe.

The Mathematics Tour was historic for Sheeran as its multi-year run resulted in an impressive record-breaking moment at MetLife Stadium in June 2023.
His two shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey, grossed a staggering $18 million at the box office and broke the stadium’s attendance record with 173,390 fans inside the stadium, the stadium confirmed to PEOPLE at the time.
Sheeran celebrated the success on Instagram, writing: “Today I played my biggest show in the US and broke the record for tickets at MetLife,” alongside an aerial video of the packed concert.

After his performance, the stadium displayed a message on screens that read: “Congratulations Ed Sheeran”, noting that the “Perfect” musician broke the venue’s all-time attendance record with 89,106 people for a single concert.
“I’m really not taking this for granted, my dad told me if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere,” Sheeran’s post continued, “and today I really remembered my first show at the Mercury Lounge in 2012 to 130 people .”
He added: “Today feels like a dream. I love you all.”
