Jackson started 21 of 47 games at cornerback and strong safety at the University of Arkansas, recording 174 tackles, 35 passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. However, he also rode the high hurdles for the Razorback track team, which won the national championship. Jackson was also a college All-American in track and field, winning four national championships. He still holds the freshman record in the 110 high hurdles.
Jackson signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played for the Miami Dolphins in 2005 and 2006, spending his final season on injured reserve with a torn ACL suffered on Dec. 25. The Dolphins did not offer Jackson a contract as a restricted free agent, in part because of his injuries. On March 19, 2007, Jackson signed a two-year contract with the New England Patriots. The contract did not include a signing bonus and base salaries of $1,510,000 in 2007 and $1,605,000 in 2008. He was waived by the Patriots during the 2007 season. The Washington Redskins signed Jackson during the 2008 offseason, but dismissed on June 5.
