Ego Nwodim already has some ideas for big name stars he would like to see take the place and host Saturday night live as the series prepares to begin its landmark 50th season.
To top her list, the 36-year-old actress — who joined the long-running NBC sketch series in 2018 — nominated her Mr. Return actor Stephen “Steph” Curry.
“I want Steph Curry to host SNL. Put me down officially. That’s my vote,” she told PEOPLE exclusively. “That’s my vote, my 2024. I’m voting for Steph Curry to host SNL.”
“I would love that, and he would be so good,” she adds.

While he can’t say much about what fans can expect from the upcoming season, Nwodim says plans for what’s to come have been in the works for some time.
“When we’re on summer break, especially actors, when I tell you we’re on real summer break, I’m like, I have no idea what’s going on there. Literally. And that’s all of us,” she explains. “We don’t know. We find out everything and anything, who is employed, who is returning, basically at the same time as the public.”

“So we have no idea. But I do know that the producers are working hard and since last year, honestly, they’ve literally spent calendar years on the 50th and the 50th anniversary plans,” she continues. “So it’ll be like the wedding of your dreams. It’s like your dad’s 50th birthday party or something.”
“I think it’s going to be really special. I notice that, and what I can tell is that they’re going all out and they’re really meticulous and thoughtful about who they’re going to show up. So I know they’re very excited,” she adds.
In the meantime, fans can catch Nwodima and Curry acting together Mr. Returnwhich features the 36-year-old Golden State Warriors player playing a fictional version of himself as he reconciles with Danny (Adam Pally), his high school basketball teammate who now works as a memorabilia salesman.

Nwodim has high praise for Curry, whom she found “phenomenal” in his comedic efforts on the mockumentary series Peacock.
“He came to the shoot and he was amazing. He was prepared and off the book,” she recalls. “He came off the book and I was like, ‘Oh, hell, Steph.’ He’s training for the Olympics and it’s not right,” she says. “And I’m like, ‘S—, I’m not out of line. I’ve got to step it up.’ Steph made me want to up my game.”
Also calling Curry a “class performance,” Good burger 2 the actress added: “It was amazing to see him. And that’s why I think fans… shouldn’t be [surprised] because he’s great at everything, but I think he’ll be surprised at how funny and funny and good he is at acting.”

Those who tune in will also get to see Nwodima and Curry show off their comedic skills alongside Pally, a frequent comedian who appears in sitcoms such as Happy endings and The Mindy Project. In fact, Nwodim says Joints the actor — who was “having as much fun as he rightfully should” — told her he’d “get [her] break” the character in the middle of the scene.
“I think I cracked up. Or, as soon as we called the cut, I cracked up. But there was enough of it. As soon as the director announced the cut, we all would have burst out laughing if we hadn’t already started while the cameras were rolling,” she shares. “There was so much play behind the scenes and so much laughter between takes. It was such a joyous experience. Such good vibes, such good energy throughout the shoot.”
