Bakrid 2023: In Islam, the word ‘Eid’ means ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’. Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha are two special holidays that Muslims celebrate at the behest of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). It is the time of year when people count blessings and give alms.
Every year, the Muslim community celebrates Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. These two events sound similar, but they are completely different events, representing different aspects of Islam.
Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr is the first of two Muslim celebrations. The holy month of Ramadan ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. This happy day is observed to express gratitude for the benefits of Ramadan. Muslims participate in the early Eid prayers of the congregation. They prepare delicious food, wear new clothes, and invite friends and neighbors to join the celebration. The Muslim community is encouraged to give generously to the poor as they fast during the month of Ramadan.
Kurban Bayram
Eid al-Adha is celebrated as the great or great Eid. It is also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, which takes place about ten weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr, and celebrates the end of the Hajj (sacred pilgrimage to Mecca). The day honors Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and his son Hazrat Ismail (AS) for obeying Allah’s orders. And in return, they received the great privilege of becoming the fathers of the Holy Prophet of Islam (sa).

What is the difference between Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha

Although the two Eids have different meanings, generosity unites the two. At the end of Ramadan, on the day of Eid al-Fitr, zakat ul-fitr is given and the hungry are fed with it.
On the other hand, the sacrifice called Qurbani on Eid ul-Adha is divided into three parts, one of which is given to those in need. The festival also strengthens family ties, as loved ones gather to pray, participate in holiday traditions and express gratitude for blessings. Furthermore, it provides opportunities for Muslims to openly express their beliefs, promoting cultural diversity, tolerance and understanding among different communities. Overall, Eid celebrations promote solidarity, kindness and community spirit, promoting a sense of belonging and shared values among Muslims around the world.
