Ellen DeGeneres Teases Stand-Up Comedy Return with Surprise L.A. Set: ‘You’ll See It Soon Enough’

Ellen DeGeneres has returned to her stand-up roots!

On Thursday the former The Ellen DeGeneres Show host — who got her start in stand-up comedy — hit the Largo stage in Los Angeles to perform a surprise set on Beth Stelling’s “Beth & Pals” show.

DeGeneres, 66, joins Stelling’s already stellar lineup of comedians, which includes Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, Aidy Bryant, Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein, Alana Johnston and Kenya’s Nthenya.

DeGeneres was already buzzing with excitement when she arrived at the venue in LA with wife Portia de Rossi, a video she shared on Instagram shows.

In the video, the couple jumps out of the car, and DeGeneres raises her arms and shouts, “Here we go!”

The comedian then went backstage, where she mingled with some of the other comedians before Stelling introduced her, telling the unsuspecting crowd, “please make it loud for Ellen DeGeneres!”

And the audience obliged. Taking to the stage in a classic Ellen look – moto jacket, jeans and sneakers – DeGeneres walked out to a standing ovation, with some audience members even jumping out of their seats.

Clips shared by DeGeneres and The Ellen DeGeneres Show on social media was cut short just before her actual set began, but fans will see it “soon,” DeGeneres teased.

“Ellen has to do something she’s been wanting to go back to for a long time. Thanks to Largo and Beth Stelling for letting her up,” reads the description of the YouTube video. “He can’t show you any of that now, but you’ll see it soon.”

And while DeGeneres wouldn’t confirm if her surprise performance was the start of a full stand-up comeback, Largo hinted that fans of the comedian can expect new material soon.

“Ellen DeGeneres just returned to the stage, which means the world is waiting for new work from this all-time great,” the venue wrote in an Instagram post.
