Elton John Reveals He Has 'Limited Vision' in One Eye After 'Severe' Infection: 'I Am Healing'

Elton John has revealed he has “limited vision” in one eye after a serious eye infection.

On Sept. 3, the “Tiny Dancer” hitmaker, 77, shared an update on his health on Instagram, assuring fans that he’s made strides in his recovery.

“During the summer I dealt with a severe eye infection which unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote. “I’m getting better, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time for vision to return to the affected eye.”

“I am so grateful to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses and my family who have taken such good care of me over the past few weeks,” he continued. “I’ve had a quiet summer recovering at home and feel positive about the progress I’ve made in my healing and recovery so far.”

The five-time Grammy winner received plenty of well-wishes in the comments section from fans and fellow stars, including messages from Donatella Versace, Billie Jean King, Brothers Osborne’s TJ Osborne, Linda Evangelista, Loni Love and more.

John’s severe eye infection comes after the music legend was hospitalized last year after “slipping” while at his Mont Boron villa near Nice, France. The musician was taken to Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco and kept overnight for observation.

“Elton visited a local hospital as a precaution,” John’s rep said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time. “After an examination, he was discharged immediately this morning and is now back home in good health.”

The previous fall also forced the “Rocket Man” singer to push back the rest of his tour dates from 2021 to 2023. The accident left his hip in “quite a lot of pain and discomfort,” and although he underwent physiotherapy and specialist treatment, he had limited mobility and had to is undergoing surgery.

“I was advised to have surgery as soon as possible to get back to full fitness and ensure there were no long-term complications,” John said. in the statement at that time.
