Elvis Presley's Former Nurse Marian J. Cocke Dies at 98 as Priscilla Presley Calls Her the Person 'He Always Counted On'

Marian Cocke, who spent more than two years as a nurse Elvis Presley before his death in 1977, died. She was 98 years old.

The actress, 79, shared her message with her photo and Cocke with her late daughter Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January 2023.

Cocke detailed his time with the king in the 1979 book under the title I called him honey: Remember nurse Elvis Presley. In the book, Cocke said that a nursing supervisor at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, when Presley was first admitted to her care in January 1975.

In an interview spent in the mid-2000s, Cocke said “he was never an Elvis fan” before she met the star and treated his arrival-what was arranged by his doctor George “Dr. Nick” Nichopoulos-like “Any other Joe who came to the hospital.”

Presley spent about three weeks at the hospital under Cocke’s care, and the nurse no longer saw the patient with the famous until she was admitted to the hospital for the second time that August.

“When he returned the second time, he wanted to stay night,” she recalled. “I stayed in the room over the hall. If he wanted anything, he would go in and shake his shoulders. And most of the time it was,” I can’t sleep, would you get up and talk to me? “And I would get up, put my robe and sat down in the living room with him.”

After Presley left Baptist Memorial for the second time, Nichopoulos asked Cocke to become a nurse stars in Graceland, where responsibilities would include monitoring his blood pressure and medicines.

Cocke said that she eventually stayed in Graceland with Presley for a period of two and a half years, and left only because of her mother’s terminal disease. She said she refused to accept the payment from Presley, even though the star gave her a “beautiful white pontiac”.
