Eminem reminded at the 2024 MTV VMA Awards what it’s called.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the “Without Me” musician, 51, performed a high-energy rendition of “Houdini” to open the awards show at the UBS Arena in New York City. He also played “Somebody Save Me” with help from Jelly Roll.
Eminem opened the performance with “Houdini,” wearing a Slim Shady wig — as did many of the other individuals on stage surrounding the rapper — in reference to the song’s music video.

He then took off his wig, donned a black baseball cap and rapped “Somebody Save Me,” while a video of Jelly Roll (who was not present) singing the chorus appeared on screens around the stage.
At the performance, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, performed material from his latest album, Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), his television debut.

At this year’s event, the “Stan” rapper earned eight nominations: video of the year, best hip-hop, best direction, best editing, best visual effects and song of the summer for “Houdini,” plus artist of the year and most VMA awards for iconic performance for his medley “The Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” at the 2000 ceremony.

Eminem to give away The death of Slim Shady His TV debut with an opening performance at the 2024 MTV VMAs
The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)which was released in July, is Eminem’s 12th studio album.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the “Lose Yourself” hitmaker told fans that his latest project is a concept album.
“Disclaimer: ‘death of slim shady’ is a concept album, so if you listen to the songs out of order, they may not make sense. Enjoy,” he wrote.
The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) debuted at the top Billboard 200 album, while its lead single “Houdini” reached No. 2 on the chart Billboard Hot 100.

Anitta, Karol G, LL Cool J and Shawn Mendes to Join Star Lineup at 2024 MTV VMAs (Exclusive)
In addition to Eminem’s set at the VMAs, Katy Perry, Anitta, Karol G, Shawn Mendes, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa, Megan Thee Stallion and Benson Boone will also be performing on stage .
Teddy Swims and Jessie Murph will also play live on the show’s Extended Play stage, while Le Sserafim treated the crowd to a pre-show set.

Perry, 39, is set to receive the coveted video avant-garde award and perform a medley of her greatest hits — possibly alongside material from her upcoming 143 album.
Megan Thee Stallion will also host this year’s show.
