Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder Are Husband and Wife House Flippers in The Curse: ‘What Could Go Wrong?’

In the first trailer for their new Showtime series, Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are poised to become the TV couple of their dreams — but there’s a catch.

Full trailer for the black comedy A24 Curse fell on Thursday. There will be no shortage of suspense and comedy, as the extended teaser promises, “This is not your typical sit-down series.”

Stone, 34, and Fielder, 40, star as HGTV couple Whitney and Asher as they film the first season of their renovation series. During the filming of a B-role, Asher offers a young girl a $100 bill.

Everything falls apart from there.

“We are doing well here. We’re good people,” Asher tells a friend before ripping off a $100 bill from the girl when he thinks the cameras aren’t rolling. “So all I had on me was that $100 bill,” he excuses himself. “Let me go get some change and—”

The kid says there’s “no going back” before offering an ominous “I curse you” to the TV star. This causes a disagreement with Whitney, who asks her, “Why didn’t you just give her $100?”

While the curse may seem like child’s play, the tone of the trailer soon turns foreboding as Whitney and Asher’s life begins to unravel off-screen, and he admits, “Things have been a little weird.”

As the trailer progresses, the pair are at odds, their motives – and morals – seem at odds.

Arrests, gunmen, running children, dead birds and fake smiles flash by, leading to a voice warning: “Everyone is going to see who you really are.”

Curse co-created by Fielder and Benny Safdie (who also stars). It’s described as “a genre-bending series that explores how a supposed curse disrupts a newlywed couple’s relationship as they try to conceive a child while starring in their new home improvement show.”
