They insist they will remain friends
Tonight, they released a joint statement on their Instagram accounts insisting they will remain friends.
Charley’s version read: “Matthew and I have decided to part ways with love and respect. We remain friends and our priority is the love of our children. For them we would appreciate privacy at this time.”
Earlier this month, Matthew hinted that their marriage was in trouble after he unfollowed his wife on Instagram.
He hasn’t commented on any of her recent pictures or posted about her in over a year.
A source said: “Charley and Matthew were at very different places in their lives when they first got together.
“Three children later and with new careers in the mix, everything has changed and they may not be the unit they once were.”
The actor soon followed her again, hoping that everything was fine behind the scenes.
Charley (35) and Matthew (43) first met on the set of Emmerdale in 2007 and were engaged by 2009.
The couple previously divorced in 2013 for two years before having a surprise wedding in 2018.
Matthew recently left Emmerdale after 18 years playing David Metcalfe and immediately got stuck into rehearsals for his new role in Elf.
Charley, meanwhile, left the soap two years ago and her career has taken off, most recently appearing in ITV drama The Long Shadow.
She became close with Sheridan Smith, and sources say that the actress became her real supporter, both on a business and private level.
Matt recently appeared on Loose Women and opened up about their grueling schedules.
He admitted that his parents had to step in and help with their children.
