Emraan Hashmi was born on March 24, 1979 in Purgaon, Maharashtra, India (44 years old; as of 2023). He was educated at Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce (B.com) from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He was inclined toward acting from an early age.
Emraan appeared in many television commercials as a child. Before making his Bollywood debut, he worked as an assistant director in the film Raaz.

His mother Maherahh Hashmi, an actress, died of cancer in March 2016. Emraan has a brother, Calvin Hashmi. He is the nephew of director-producer Mahesh Bhatt. Emraan is the cousin of Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt, Rahul Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt.
Emraan dated Parveen Shahani for six years before marrying her in a private ceremony on December 14, 2006. The couple has a son, Aayan Hashmi, born in 2010.

Emraan made his Bollywood debut with Vikram Bhatt’s “The Walk”. Although the film did not do well at the box office, his performance was praised by critics. He next starred in The Murder, which proved to be a turning point in his career as his performance in the film was well received. The film was a box office success. After “Murder”, Emraan played lead roles in “Zaher” (2005), “Aashiq Banaya Aapne” (2005) and “Gangster” (2006). In 2008, he played the role of Arjun Dixit in the movie “Jannat”.
