Lake could only think of “falling in love as the most beautiful landing in life.” He was making fun of that very thing in the post. “When you’re on a TV show and you make a stupid remark about equating love with something you do at work,” Lake said, “you’re permanently setting yourself up to accept trash from your friends.” His caption reflected that sentiment. Marriage and Divorce of Erik Lake and Virginia Coombs
Lake and Coombs initially appeared on Married at First Sight Season 12 as a couple. They met for the first time at the altar and got married on August 31, 2020. The first few days were pleasant. The former couple decided to stay married on Decision Day. Lake described the marriage as “one of the biggest experiments of my life” and Coombs as “one of the coolest individuals I’ve ever met”.
Seasons 13, 14 and 15 of the series featured their romance. It eventually got worse, as evidenced by Lake’s jealousy of his then-partying wife’s lifestyle in season 15. Before that, in January 2021, they sought the help of a relationship expert to resolve their issues and even withdrew their marriage from social networks to protect themselves. However, there was no improvement. Because of this, on July 15, 2021, they announced that they were divorcing. In a statement, they asserted that the end of their time together was not due to lack of effort and that the divorce does not rule out the possibility of a future reunion. After the divorce, many accused them of staying together because of the program.
