Ethan Hawke Took the Greyhound Bus to Premiere of His New Movie: ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss This’

Ethan Hawke refused to let anything stop him from attending the premiere of his latest film, Wildcat.

On Monday, PEOPLE spoke exclusively with A strange way of life star, 52, as he walked the red carpet with his daughter, actress Maya Hawke, at the Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada.

“He had to come here by bus because all the flights were cancelled,” she added as her proud dad smiled beside her.

“Three flights canceled, then I said, ‘I’m not going to miss this for some airport,'” Ethan said.

The Emmy Award winner added, “So I went to the harbormaster’s office and jumped on the bus.”

Ethan assured PEOPLE that he wasn’t alone while traveling, adding that his wife and production partner were along for the ride.

When asked if he was recognized by any of the other passengers on the plane or at the station, he didn’t seem to think his celebrity mattered to his fellow passengers, who were probably more concerned about getting to their destinations.

“Man, nobody cares about anybody else on the bus,” Ethan said, noting that “nobody’s comfortable” resorting to that mode of transportation.

He reiterated that “no one cares at all,” before sharing how he spent his time on the trip.

“I just read my book and disappeared back and prayed we made it,” he said. The Before dawn the alum revealed that they made it all the way to customs before anyone noticed who he was just before dawn.

The famous father-daughter duo then told what it means to them that they can work together on the project.

“Making the film was indescribably special and one of the greatest experiences of my life,” said 25-year-old Maya.

She also shared how it felt to have Wildcat premiering at TIFF amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

“To be at this festival and have the approval of our union during the strike, to be here and celebrate film and independent film and see this film in an audience, which is so rare now, is just the ultimate privilege,” Maya shared of the opportunity to share the film with fans. and to their peers.

Ethan, who was still standing by his daughter’s side, added that he was “really proud” of all she had achieved. She praised him back and added that “she is also very proud of him”.

When he entered the event, he said a few short words before introducing the film to the audience.
