Evan Ellingson, best known for his role in the 2009 film My sister’s keeperhe died at the age of 35.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner, Ellingson was found dead in a bedroom in Fontana, California on Sunday, November 5th. The cause of his death has not been determined.
PEOPLE has reached out to the coroner’s office for additional details.
First to report the news, TMZ said Ellingson’s father said the actor struggled with addiction and died at a home where he lived sober.
One of Ellingson’s most memorable roles was as Jesse in the 2009 cancer drama My sister’s keeper, with a cast that includes Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin and Jason Patric.

Ellingson, who hasn’t appeared on screen in over 10 years, played Lt. David Caruso’s son Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami. In addition, he played the nephew of Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer 24.

According to his IMDb bio, the actor grew up in La Verne, California with his three brothers, and “was discovered at a skate park and asked not only to skate for the Vans PeeWee team, but also to do a commercial for the Vans Company.”

His “unmistakable charisma and talent” led to him being “asked to make a trilogy of short films playing a character written specifically for him,” which later earned him more roles, his bio adds.
While promoting CSI: Miami back in 2009, Ellingson said Philippine star“I’ve never had the same [childhood] experience with my friends. I never had more time with them. However, my childhood was cool. I’ve been busy doing the things I love.”
He added: “I have no regrets because I found my passion for acting early.”
