The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has resulted in significant release dates for several highly anticipated 2024 movies.
High-profile films such as “Snow White,” “Elio” and “Fantastic Four” have all been postponed to allow actors to promote their films and attend premieres after the strike is resolved.
Despite the setback, the release dates of some movies, such as “Deadpool 3,” have been pushed forward, though they may be pushed back further as filming resumes.
On September 27, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) reached a new contract, officially ending the 2023 strike. But as of this writing, the 2023 Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike is still ongoing, and multiple 2024 movies have been postponed. After all, making a movie without actors is a bit difficult. However, even though many of these projects have completed filming, studios have delayed release dates so that the actors involved can promote the films and attend premieres.
SAG-AFTRA leaders have been meeting with AMPTP executives to try to come to an agreement on a new contract, but unfortunately, the studio has yet to offer the cast a fair deal. So while the union continues to fight for the benefits its members deserve, studios have no choice but to delay some of their most important projects. Hopefully SAG-AFTRA will soon get a new contract that meets its standards like the WGA, but in the meantime, 15 high-profile movies scheduled for release in 2024 have been postponed.
