The street passes through a remote part of the city.
Large grass-covered hills lie on each side of the street – sheep can be seen grazing in the background of the video puzzle.
But according to the plaques placed on the road, the scenery is an important part of the illusion.
The deceptive contours of the landscape create the illusion of an upward slope on the road, disguising its actual descent.
The road, named “Electric Brae”, is called “gravity hill”.
The riders nicknamed the hill “electric” when they incorrectly believed the hill was caused by a magnetic field.
“Although there is a 1 in 86 slope up from the bend to the valley, the configuration of the terrain on either side of the road provides an optical illusion that makes it appear as if the slope is going in the other direction,” the sign at the top of the road explains.
“Therefore, a car standing on the road with the brakes off will appear to be moving slowly uphill.”
The confusing hill stretches for a quarter of a mile.
ua publish on X, formerly known as Twitter, dozens of riders said their experience on the hill was surreal.
Everyone sees the little girl in the middle of the road – but you have a high IQ if you can tell what’s really going on
“It’s been a while since I’ve been like this,” said one commenter.
“I always loved it as a kid.”
Although another person said their car-free experience wasn’t as confusing.
“[I] drive it regularly,” said one driver.
“[I] I have to admit that I disappointed The Electric Brae on the bike.”
