The illusion called “Turn in the road” was developed by researchers from Rice University.

Kimberley D. Orsten and James R. Pomerantz participated in the mystery puzzle as contestants for the best illusion of the year.

The puzzle came in third place.

The researchers said the puzzle is complicated because it shows some repeating patterns.

“When we look at two pictures that are physically the same, they tend to look the same,” they said in the puzzle entry.

“When they are different, they look different. Our illusions show the opposite.”

They said the puzzle has a confusing “anti-metamer” that tricks readers into believing the roads are the same.

But upon closer inspection, some readers may find a different road than others.

Readers who can distinguish pictures quickly could be said to have different observational skills.

On the other hand, those with sharp vision might be able to resolve optical illusions more easily than others, leading them to boast 20/20 vision.

Anyone can see cars – but you’re in the top 1% if you can spot a weird one in six seconds

However, 20/20 vision refers to the ability to see an object that is 20 feet away without the use of glasses or lenses, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Those who are talented at breaking brain teasers and optical illusions may have 20/20 vision, but this should not be used as an official confirmation of this.

ANSWER KEY:

There are three roads that seem to go in two directions.

Many readers may assume that the road on the right turns away from the other streets.

However, the second road is different.

“Viewers see one image as strange, but it is one of two identical images that they see as different, an illusion we call ‘false pop,'” the researchers said in their filing.

Instead, the middle road – with similar lines and dimensions – faces the other direction.

Here are the roads that have been remodeled to show the difference:
