Everyone’s fooled by how many circles they see in mind-boggling optical illusion – you have a high IQ if you spot all 16

THERE are 16 circles hidden in this striped, 3D optical illusion.

It’s extremely difficult to focus on finding circles while staring at this barcode-like image.

“Viewers viewing this unchanging display for the first time do not see the 16 circles separated from the background,” illusion creator Anthony Norcia wrote in 2006.

“Instead, they see a series of rectangles that they often describe as ‘door panels,'” he explained.

They are also known as coffers which are recessed panels usually found on the ceiling.

Caskets are often square, rectangular or octagonal in shape and adorn famous buildings such as the Pantheon in Rome, Italy.

“The illusion puts segmentation cues against what appears to be a very strong prior interpretation of the image as a series of 3-D ‘box’ structures with closed boundaries,” Norcia wrote.

Advantages of brain teasers and optical illusions

Researchers have developed many tests to show how different regions of the brain respond to brain teasers and optical illusions. There are many advantages.

  • They are not only entertaining, but shed light on how our brain interprets visual data.
  • By regularly exercising your brain, you improve your ability to focus and observe details.
  • Studies have shown that people who regularly face optical illusions and puzzles see great improvements in their problem-solving skills, concentration and attention.
  • Improved concentration and attention span can prevent cognitive decline in old age.
  • Optical illusions can improve vision by allowing you to see fine print.

Norcia used horizontal and vertical lines that easily blend into the background, making it difficult to see all the circles.

The lines are also of different thicknesses and shades of gray which makes it difficult to focus.

Set a 15-minute timer to find 16 circles and prove your high IQ.

Once you train your eyes to see the circles, they will be easier to spot.

If this illusion seems too easy, try this one as an extra challenge.

Try to spot the hidden animal in this screech owl collection in 12 seconds.

Everyone can see the family – but you have 20/20 vision and a high IQ if you find the hidden astronomer in 12 seconds

All the animals are the same color, but keep your eyes open for a cheater.

For another test, try to find a lucky clover in the flower garden.

This image is an explosion of color which makes it beautiful to look at but hard to focus on.
