Netflix’s Wednesday the series is back for a second season!

On January 6, 2023, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar confirmed that the series had been renewed for a second season in an interview with Tudum.

“It was amazing to create a show that connected people all over the world,” they said in a statement. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s arduous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the wacky spooky world of Nevermore. We just have to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

Based on the characters created by Charles Addams, the series follows Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday Addams as she tries to solve the mystery of the monster at her new school, Nevermore Academy.

With Tim Burton attached as an executive producer and a host of A-list stars including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman and ex-Wednesday Addams Christina Ricci, the series has been highly anticipated since it was first announced in 2021.

After the very successful premiere of the first season, the presenters and the cast have already released a handful of details about their plans for the new season.

From returning stars to new characters who might be joining, here’s everything you need to know about season two Wednesday.

Ortega will likely reprise her role as Wednesday alongside the rest of the Addams Family, including Zeta-Jones and Guzmán as Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams, respectively.

Despite her character meeting a tragic end in the first season, Gwendoline Christie teased that she might also return as Principal Weems. “We didn’t see her buried in the ground, did we?” Christie said Digital spy. “I feel that Larissa Weems would not be willing to entertain or be dominated by something as common as death.”

Additionally, showrunners Gough and Millar told Variety that the door is open for Tyler Galpin (played by Hunter Doohan) to return after he was last seen “hiding” in the final moments of season one. “Yes. Absolutely. He’s out there. That’s what we wanted to convey,” Gough teased.

In the Season 2 trailer, Netflix also teased that more information about the cast is yet to come.

In an interview with TVLine, Gough and Millar revealed that they would like to include even more characters from the Addams Family in season two. “We felt like we’d only scratched the surface with those characters, and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” co-showrunner Millar said.

While the show’s primary focus will continue to be Wednesdays in season two, they added that they “definitely want to introduce the family like we did this season in a few episodes.”

During the Tudum: Global Fan Event in June 2023, the cast further teased that fans will see more of the Wednesday family in the new season as they recounted various fan theories.

While the official synopsis for the new season has yet to be revealed, the showrunners previously revealed that they plan to further explore Wednesday’s growth as a character.

“The show is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white and learns that there are shades of grey,” Gough said TV Line. “I think like any relationship or friendship, it can be complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be smooth sailing. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.”

During a conversation with Elle Fanning for DiversityCast on cast, Ortega added that the show is also “rejecting any romantic love interest for Wednesday” in the new season. “We decided we wanted to focus a little more on the horror aspect of the show,” added Ortega. “Because it’s so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”

In an interview with in 1883, Emma Myers, who plays Enid in the series, shared her hopes that her character will find her confidence in the new episodes.

“She’s finally grown into her wolf abilities and I’d like to see her use that instead of being scared and upset about it. I’d like to see her be the one to drive things instead of just being dragged along,” Myers said.

While filming details have yet to be announced, during the Tudum: Global Fan Event, Myers teased that Season 2 is already in the works. “Wednesday witheason 2 is in the works right now, and the story is so top secret that we don’t even know what’s going to happen,” Myers said.

Speaking to Variety, Millar revealed that they have already mapped out several seasons for the show. “For us, it’s always looking to the future, and when we sit down to create a series, it’s ideally looking at multiple seasons,” he explained.

“It was never expected, but it’s an expectation that we hope the show will be successful. So you always set up at least three or four seasons worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change,” he said, adding, “We certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons.”
