The Joe Goldberg dolls are coming to an end.
After release Your season 4, Netflix announced in March 2023 that the hit series had been renewed for a fifth and final season.
“Your became an instant sensation on Netflix with a strong cultural impact that grew season after season,” Netflix’s Peter Friedlander, vice president of scripted series for the US and Canada, said in a statement. “We’re excited — and a little terrified — to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is certain: ‘You’ are waiting for an unforgettable end.”
In the show’s fourth season, viewers discovered another side of Joe (Penn Badgley) as he tried to break away from his murderous tendencies while living abroad under the pseudonym Professor Jonathan Moore. However, Joe quickly discovered that he couldn’t completely escape his dark past.

As the show wraps up its final season, it has been theorized if some of Joe’s past victims and acquaintances will reappear, namely Wednesday star Jenna Ortega, who played Ellie in Season 2.
In February 2023, showrunner Sera Gamble revealed that they had actually tried to bring Ortega back, but her schedule with Netflix’s Wednesday interference ended. “It was such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again,” Gamble teased at the time.
Gamble went on to say that anyone who viewers haven’t seen die onscreen could be on the table to return this season — and maybe those who died aren’t completely written off either.
“Any character who’s not dead and knows anything about Joe, it’s only fair to try and get justice,” she said. “And every character that is dead, [Joe] he has a really active imagination.”
During the Tudum: Global Fan Event 2023, Badgley also teased the return of former cast members in the new season, including Travis Van Winkle, Shalita Grant, and John Stamos, among others.
Where will Your preparation for season 5?
In the Season 4 finale, Joe returns to New York City, where the series first began in Season 1. Not only does this setup bring the series full circle, but it also opens up a wide range of story possibilities as Joe may need to come face to face with his past actions and perhaps even past victims.

While Netflix hasn’t released an official plot for the fifth and final season, Badgley previously shared with PEOPLE his hopes for what’s to come.
“I feel like it’s going toward a bigger resolution,” he said. “That’s what I want for Joe … because now the circumstances are actually different. He has a level of power and wealth that he’s never had.”
“With love [Victoria Pedretti]technically he had wealth and was close to some power, but he hated it and didn’t take it for his own. Whereas now, it seems, he accepts it and takes it as his own. And to be honest, that’s a scary prospect.”
Badgley added that it’s “an evolution of the whole conceit”.
Who are the showrunners for Your season 5?
Your season 5 will have new hosts, with executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo taking over for Sera Gamble, who originally developed the Greg Berlanti series.
“As I step back from the day-to-day running of the show to focus on new projects, I am extremely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros. and Netflix,” he said. Gamble in a statement.
“Making the series alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew was an honor and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with such a gifted and thoughtful artist as Penn Badgely. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished all by myself and I feel privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support Your team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”

He then goes to the basement, where he kept the glass box he used to hold his victims.
“But it all brought me here, until now, where I was always meant to be. And the only constant, the only thing that has always been there for me, is you,” his voice continues. “You, who have been there all along, and will be there with me until the end. Goodbye, you.”

Talking to British GQBadgely previously explained why he believes season 5 should be the series’ finale, especially after the big twist in season 4 that “Eat the Rich Killer” was actually Joe all along.
“I know what [showrunner] Greg [Berlanti] he told me a few years ago as what he thought was the right way to end it,” he said. “If there’s another one, it will be, I think, a grand finale.”
“He has to go to this place for five episodes where he wonders, ‘Is he going to be the hero we all wanted him to be?’ It doesn’t make sense when Joe becomes the hero,” he admitted. “This is the only place the show could ever go and stay relevant, stay responsible, stay intelligent, stay sensitive but true.”
Badgley added: “The whole thing was building towards us seeing Joe in a different light, really, which we’ve never done before.”
Gamble also teased E! News that the story has new possibilities now that Joe has more resources at his disposal since he’s partnered with the wealthy Kate.
“We spent four seasons constructing these characters who are violently rich, but not all so smart or so ruthless,” Gamble explained. “If Joe is all he is and now has unlimited resources and access, he’s become the thing he’s envied and judged from afar. That gives us a lot of new opportunities.”
