Ex-Premier League star’s son in furious bust-up with rival after four athletes fall in chaotic Olympics 2024 5,000m

TEAM GB star George Mills blew himself up in an ugly post-race attack after crashing on the final lap of his men’s 5000m race.

The middle-distance runner – the son of former Leeds and Manchester City defender Danny Mills – was one of four runners who suffered an unfortunate fall in the final few meters of the race.

Mills was on course for an eighth-place finish before crashing on the track after colliding with Spain’s Thierry Ndikumwenayo.

Luckily for Mills, his Olympic journey is still alive after the post-race judge saw him through to the final.

But immediately after the race he was visibly overcome with emotion and anger when he eventually crossed the line.

And he furiously confronted Frenchman Hugo Hay – who he shoved in the chest – moments after the race’s culmination.

Hay tried to calm Mills down, but the 25-year-old British woman couldn’t do it.

Mills continued to berate the Frenchman, despite his rival’s attempts to defuse the situation.

Hay even put his arm around Mills to try and end the bad blood.

But a furious Mills shrugged him off before turning up and telling him to “fuck off”.

Mills was furious with Hay as they tangled a bit in the final corner as he tried to make his way to the front.

That bunt caused Mills to ground out to Thierry Ndikumwenayo which resulted in four runners being thrown out.

Reflecting on the incident, he said: “I mean, I think it’s pretty clear, I was kicked out.

“I wanted to go straight and boom! The Frenchman knocked me down.”

When asked what he told Hay, he replied, “I’m probably not allowed to say.”

Mills finished the race in 18TH PLACE with a time of 14:37.08.

That was almost a full 20 seconds behind the winner of the Narva race, Gilje Nordas.

He said of his ride: “From my perspective it was a perfect qualifier for me – I covered the first 2000m in six minutes.

“No one in this field can get away from me at this pace so I just sat and waited and waited for my time.”

Hay was left stunned by Mills’ reaction and is adamant he did nothing wrong.

The 27-year-old said: “I’m really surprised. I just hope I haven’t done anything wrong and I won’t be disqualified.

“For me it was nothing.

“Like I said to George, I’ll look at the pictures and if I’m the one who did it, I’ll apologise.

“As for me, I haven’t done anything. I just hope I can go to the final.”

Mills is no stranger to losing his temper, taking a shot at the head after he was not allowed to run the Emsley Carr Mile again last month.

He raged: “It’s absolutely fucking ridiculous”.

Mill’s old Danny was quite temperamental during his playing career.

The former English defender received 60 yellow cards and three red cards in his 15-year career.
