Facebook image search is a technique for finding a person’s profile using Facebook’s photo ID, photo search, or advanced search.
With 1.62 billion visitors each day in 2020, Facebook has topped the list of social media platforms. Most of us use it to keep in touch with family or friends. Facebook is so big that it can even help you find our lost friends that we are no longer in touch with. Great, isn’t it?
Another amazing thing about this social media platform is that more than 200 million photos are uploaded on this platform every day. Not only that, you can even search for someone on FB if you have a photo of the person or any related information. If you are wondering how this is possible, I have discussed various methods regarding the same later in this guide where you can easily find a person on Facebook if you have a headshot of them.
What is Facebook Image Search?
Facebook image search refers to the method used to search for a person on the social media platform using various methods such as photo ID, profile search, Facebook search or reverse Facebook image search. We all use FB to find someone using their name, but this time you can do it with the help of an image and to filter the search results, you can even use the Advanced Search option. Features like image search or Google phone number search are useful when you want to find out the identity of a person.
How does the image search feature work on Facebook?
Facebook considers the following three factors when searching for images:
- Search Facebook photos based on account ID.
- Image Search also took into account the privacy settings of the user’s Facebook account.
- It will only show photos from public accounts.
Therefore, user account settings are crucial to perform Facebook image search. Also, if a person has uploaded images with the ‘Friends of a Friend’ privacy setting, it also becomes difficult to find the person by the image on Facebook unless you are related to one of that person’s friends.
How to search a Facebook profile using an image?
Generally speaking, you can search for images by logging into your Facebook account and entering a relevant keyword in the search box; you will get all linked accounts in the search results. Or you can even add ‘ABC Photos’ for more accurate results.
Another option is to go to Facebook.com/directory and search for images; use the available options to narrow your search results.
Now let’s start with the methods to find photos on Facebook:
1. Use Facebook photos
If you have an image downloaded from a Facebook account, you can follow the steps here:
- Every image that is downloaded from Facebook has a file name; search for the file name and you will find ‘FB’ in it.
- If you look closely at the file name, you’ll see three sets of numbers separated by periods; you have to find the middle set of numbers. The middle string of numbers is the Facebook profile ID of the person you’re looking for.
- Now you need to enter the URL in the web browser: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=xxxxxx. Instead of xxxx, you need to enter the profile ID that you downloaded from the photo.
- Press ‘Enter’ and you will be directed to the respective FB user’s profile if you are already logged into your account.
2. Reverse Image Search
Reverse image search is another useful method by which you can find the source of the photo i.e. the person it belongs to. You can get similar images from the Internet using this method.
Here is how to do it:
A. Image Search – Google
Google allows you to search for a person’s Facebook profile by entering a photo ID in case you have downloaded the photo from Facebook.
- Most of us use Google as our default search engine, so you just need to open it and go to images.google.com.
- Click on the image icon that says “Search by Image” displayed in the Google search bar
- You will then have two options: you can either ‘Paste the image URL’ or you can ‘Upload the image’.
- After you upload an image, Google results will show you all the sites that have matching images, including Facebook.
- If you want more precise results, you can enter the keyword site:facebook.com in the search field and then you will see all the Facebook pages or profiles where the image has been uploaded.
B.Bing Rev Image Search
Bing also offers a Google-like feature where you can search for a profile by image. You will need to upload the photo to the Bing engine and you will get all the related information and links.
To do this, go to https://www.bing.com/images/trending?FORM=ILPTRD and use the camera icon that says ‘Search by Image’ to upload a photo. So you can find someone with a photo using the Bing search engine.
Images you upload will be automatically deleted and will not be visible to other users. You can even click a photo. With Bing, you get a more controlled image search where you can reverse search any part of the image you’ve uploaded. Even the text written on the photo will be copied and you will get clear categorized results.
3. Other methods
A.TinEye
Tineye is a popular reverse image search option for Facebook and you only need to upload an image or paste a URL to find related images and photo sources.
B. The search returned
Search is Back is another tool that allows you to search for people using specific information like city, marital status, school, name, events, posts, and even allows you to find a person on Facebook by photo.
That was all about how you can reverse Facebook image search and search a person’s profile through their photo.
Last words
If you want to search someone on Facebook with the help of their photo, you can easily do it using Google or Bing Search by Image option and you will get all the links that have a photo and related information.
