In June 2022, Faisal Wani released a VFX video of Nupur Sharma, which went viral across India. In the video, Faisal digitally beheaded former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, sparking fear among the public. He later deleted the video and posted an apology video in which he said he had no intention of hurting the sentiments of people or any religion.
I uploaded a video about Nupur Sharma last night. This is a VFX video that went viral in India and innocent people like me were implicated. I never had any intention to harm any other religion because Islam teaches us to respect other religions,” Wani said in the new video. He said he deleted the controversial video after it went viral. “I respect all religion. Yes, I made that video, but I had no intention of breaking any rules. I deleted the video last night but I apologize for it. I’m sorry,” the YouTuber said in the video with his hands clasped together. “I’m sorry if anyone was hurt by this. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone,”
Faisal was arrested in Srinagar on June 18, 2022, and charged under Section 505 with making statements or spreading rumors to cause fear.
