Azmi works on various projects to empower youth, fight for women’s safety, address various environmental issues, meet the needs of underprivileged children and combat religious discrimination. He even contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from North Mumbai constituency but lost. In January 2018, Farhan resigned as chairman of the Yuva branch of the Samajwadi Party, but continued to serve the party.

Esha reportedly commented on his father Abu Azmi’s controversial statement that women themselves were responsible for their sexual harassment. Abramovich made the remarks in the context of the mass molestation incident that took place in Bengaluru on New Year’s Eve.
- In January 2017, Farhan made controversial remarks at a public rally in Nagpada Junction, Mumbai. Addressing the public, Azmi said that “different political parties are using Muslims as condoms.” His remarks were harshly criticized by many Muslim leaders.
- In 2017, Farhan received death threats from Hindu extremist groups for marrying a Muslim girl. They call it an act of “love jihad.” The callers even threatened him with planting bombs in his house, office and vehicle. Surprisingly, these threats were made eight years after he married Ayesha Takia. Farhan filed an FIR with the Colaba police station in Mumbai alleging calls made by a Hindu activist group in Rajasthan.
- Farhan has been embroiled in controversy after his net worth quadrupled in four years. Apparently, he revealed his net worth of Rs. 160 million was collected during the Bhiwandi by-election in 2010, which was later increased to Rs. When he contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he got Rs 64 crore.
- Farhan is also embroiled in a legal dispute with his business partner Kashiff Khan over their restaurant ‘Koyla’. Khan accused Azmi of misappropriating funds originally invested in the business, while Farhan lodged a complaint against him for sending goons to his Bandra restaurant.
