Fern Britton details ‘difficult’ time in candid interview

Former This Morning host Fern Britton has recently come under intense scrutiny, including from a man she calls a “sleazy paparazzi,” who she said on Twitter “really does. I’m sad and shaken.”

Attention grew after her former co-host Phillip Schofield left the show after admitting to an extramarital affair with a much younger man who worked on the show. .

Fan favorite Fern has had a pretty challenging couple of years for a variety of reasons, which she reflects in a new interview with Your magazine.

In a candid interview, the star admitted: “The last three or four years have been difficult for the world in general and for me personally. I’ve been a bit lost.”

In early 2020, the presenter turned writer announced that she would be separating from her husband of 20 years, Phil Vickery. Just a few months earlier, she had lost her father, actor Tony Britton, at the age of 95, and the year before that, her mother, Ruth, had also died at the age of 94.

The star describes her feeling “well and fit” these days, despite having to undergo shoulder joint surgery. The therapy has helped her adopt a more positive attitude towards life, and she tells the publication, “I’m starting to like being alone.”

When asked if she misses appearing on TV, she candidly agreed: “Sometimes, yes. I remember being on This Morning and meeting Michael Bublé or Dolly Parton or Goldie Hawn, it was so much fun. But I was lucky enough to have another career.”

When asked before the news broke if Phillip was leaving soon, she commented: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he stepped down. It’s a tough job at any age.”

Fern left the series in 2019 after a ten-year run, with Holly Willoughby reprising her role. At the time, it was rumored that she left because of a salary dispute. In response to rumors that she was leaving because of the pay gap, she commented: “It’s certainly not true, not least because I don’t know how much Philip was paid; I know how much I was paid and that more than fair.

“It sucks when you do the same job with a man, you get paid less and I fully support equal pay, but at the time, even if Phillip was paid more than me, he still doing more shows on TV. .
