In Jharkhand, while they were on a bicycle, they were brutally attacked by a local group of assailants from Jharkhand who allegedly raped the woman. They were passing through Dumka district in India to go to Nepal when the incident took place. They spent the night in the camp on Dumka when the incident happened.
Fernanda, aka Nanda, and her husband posted a video of themselves on social media, where they can be seen with swollen faces, bruises, and visibly upset. She said,
“We experienced something unimaginable, seven men physically attacked me, beat me, robbed me.”
Nanda noticed that the gang was primarily interested in attacking her. Her husband Vicente showed off his injuries, including a busted lip and stitches around his mouth, in another post. He revealed that the attackers hit him with a helmet and a stone.
“My injuries are serious, but Fernanda’s condition is worse.”

Dumka Superintendent of Police Pitamber Singh Kherwar told reporters:
“The couple spoke a mixture of English and Spanish so the patrol team could not understand them at first. But they seemed visibly injured, so they were taken for treatment.”
“The other four accused have been identified and searches are underway. They will be caught soon.”
