Fisher Island Ferry Disaster

When we talk about the ferry accident that happened three years ago, it claimed the lives of Emma Afra, 63, and her passenger Viviane Brahms, 75, of Harrison, New York. After some time, the investigators found that the car was overturned 52 meters below the surface. The scenes after the incident were shocking when the two victims were found embracing in the back seat of a Mercedes car. On Sunday June 25, 2023, the accident occurred just east of the Pilot House Station on Dodge Island in the early hours of Sunday morning around 3:40 am. Lt. Pete Sanchez of the Miami Fire Department said the US Coast Guard reported that a 30-foot boat struck a ferry in the channel. However, ferry personnel pulled him out of the water and turned the rescued victim over to US Coast Guard officers, who then transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Fisher Island Ferry Disaster

Due to the fatal accident on Fisher Island near Port Miami, the port was closed for about 12 hours causing great chaos. Three cruise ships reportedly had to change their unloading procedures after the US Coast Guard announced a temporary port closure and restricted traffic in and out of the port while the Florida and Wildlife Conservation Commission Fish investigate the accident.
