FKA Twigs Reveals Bleached Eyebrows ‘Mishap’ Once Led to Burning All the Skin Off Her Forehead

Twigs shared the story behind her braided hair look in her “Life in Looks” video alongside her British Vogue cover debut

FKA Twigs has had many memorable fashion and beauty moments.

However, one of them has quite a story behind it – and it was actually quite painful.

In the new music video for her “Life in Looks”. British Vogue debut cover, the 36-year-old singer-songwriter revealed the story behind her beaded fringe-trimmed braid at the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize Nominations Presentation.

“I was actually experimenting with eyebrow bleaching at the time, and I had an accident and I burned all the skin off my forehead,” Twigs said.

“My hairdresser Soichi [Inagaki] and I came up with the idea that I would have beads hanging really low to cover it up, so I could be beautiful down here,” she recalled with a smile. “I actually think some of the greatest fashion moments come from an accident or a mistake, and it turns into a happy accident.”

“It’s a good thing I burned my eyebrows,” she added.

Celebrating her first Mercury nomination at the time, Twigs wore a Balenciaga ensemble consisting of a gray jacket over a black jumpsuit.

The star’s comments about her appearance come after she responded to a ban on her Calvin Klein ad in the UK following complaints about the nudity. In January, the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority claimed that one of three posters from the April 2023 campaign depicted Twigs as a “stereotypical sex object”.

“I don’t see the ‘stereotypical sex object’ I’ve been labeled,” Twigs responded in an Instagram post in January. “I see a beautiful strong woman of color whose incredible body has overcome more pain than you can imagine,”

Meanwhile, Twigs will star in the upcoming remake of the film, Crow. This comes 30 years after the 1994 original, which starred the late Brandon Lee.

Lee died at the age of 28 in 1993 after being accidentally shot on set. The original and remake films are based on James O’Barr’s 1989 graphic novel. Twigs will play the role of Eric’s late fiancee, Shelly.

Meanwhile, Eric has risen from the dead to fight for justice against the people who killed him and Shelly.

Crow will be released in theaters from June 7.
